Pump Stations

What do Pump Stations do?

The City’s sewer system includes 70 Pump stations to help move the wastewater from homes and businesses along the hilly topography of Chattanooga and all the way to the Moccasin Bend Environmental Campus. They range in capacity from 3,000 to 130 million gallons per day. 12 of them have a capacity of over 10 million gallons per day.

Pump Station Upgrades

About 29 of the 70 pump stations needed to be upgraded as part of the Clear Chattanooga Program. 20 projects are already completed.

These works include the pump station’s hydraulic capacity upgrade but also replacing failing equipment and adding more reliability. Two pump stations needed to be abandoned and relocated to a brand-new site. One new pump station needed to be built.
